Nine more cases of listeria infection have been associated with the recent Boar’s Head recall of over 7.2 million pounds of deli meat products, bringing the total number of illnesses to 43, as confirmed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. All individuals affected were hospitalized, with three fatalities reported. Following the identification of the Strassburger brand liverwurst as the source of the outbreak, the recall was expanded to encompass all deli products from the facility in Jarratt, Virginia. Listeria can spread rapidly in delis and poses a significant risk to certain groups, such as pregnant women and individuals with weakened immune systems. The CDC advises consumers to avoid consuming the recalled deli products and encourages proper cleaning and heating of refrigerators and surfaces that have come into contact with sliced deli meats.
